Phuket Old Town — the Sino-Portuguese quarter in Phuket Town — is the island's spot for small, independent jewellery: designer studios, silversmiths, a handful of vintage dealers and amulet shops, all within a short, walkable grid of shophouse streets. It is a browsing area, not a place for loose certified gemstones or high-value custom setting. This guide covers what it is good for, what it isn't, when to go, and how to fold it into a walk. The short version
Come to the Old Town for one-off designer pieces, handmade silver, vintage and amulets, on the streets around Thalang, Dibuk and Yaowarat. Go daytime on a weekday — many shops close on Mondays — or come Sunday evening for the Walking Street market. Bring cash for the small shops and stalls.

What the Old Town is good for
Independent designers
Small studios making contemporary silver and gold pieces, often in the shophouse they sell from. Fixed prices, limited runs, and you can sometimes meet the maker.
Silversmiths & hill-tribe silver

Vintage & antique
A few dealers carry old Peranakan (Straits Chinese) pieces, mid-century gold, and estate items. Ask about age, origin and any repairs, and expect no certificate.
Amulets & Buddhist pendants
Gold and silver casings for Thai amulets, and the amulets themselves. Value here is about the amulet's temple and age, not the metal — a specialist area, best approached slowly.
What it is not the place for
- Loose coloured gemstones with independent laboratory reports — go to the standalone showrooms
- Gold bought by weight at the daily rate, or gold buy-back — go to the traditional gold shops
- High-value bespoke setting with a design consultation — the showrooms do this properly
- Big international jewellery brands — those are in Central Phuket
When to go
Weekday daytime is best for the actual shops — roughly 10:00–11:00 opening to 18:00–19:00 closing, with many independents shut on Mondays. The Sunday Walking Street (Lard Yai) on Thalang Road, about 16:00–22:00, closes the street to traffic and fills it with stalls, including handmade and costume silver — good for browsing and atmosphere, less so for a considered purchase. The weekend Naka Market, a few minutes away, has a bigger spread of fashion and hill-tribe silver.
Make a walk of it
The jewellery is spread through the same few streets as the quarter's restored shophouses, coffee shops, galleries and street art, so it works well as a half-day on foot: start on Thalang Road, loop through Soi Rommanee, Dibuk and Krabi Road, and finish around Phang Nga Road. It is flat, shaded in parts, and about 10–15 minutes from our showroom and from most Phuket Town hotels.

Buying tips for the Old Town
- Carry cash for small shops and stalls; larger boutiques take cards
- For silver, check the purity stamp and get it written on the receipt
- For vintage and amulets, ask about age and origin, and accept there will be no certificate
- Gentle bargaining is fine at independents and stalls; designer boutiques are fixed price
- Keep the receipt for the "VAT Refund for Tourists" scheme if your spend clears the minimum
